INFERTILITY:
Inability to achieve a pregnancy after having sex regularly without using contraception for a year.
The study at 6 months of sexual relations without pregnancy is indicated in the following cases:
➢ Woman over 35 years of age
➢ Oligo / amenorrhea (Irregular menstruation or with long periods without menstruation)
➢ Uterine and / or salpingery disease
➢ Endometriosis
➢ History of pelvic surgery
DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION:
Simultaneously for both members of the couple
• Interrogation
• Physical exam
• Request complementary studies
• Start preconceptional counseling
• Orient about an initial reproductive prognosis
INFERTILITY TREATMENTS:
➢ MEDICAL (Ovulation-inducing drugs)
➢ SURGICAL (Laparotomy, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy)
➢ TECHNIQUES OF ASSISTED REPRODUCTION (Artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, etc.)
LOW COMPLEXITY TECHNIQUES
➢ Consists of controlled ovarian stimulation with ovulation-inducing drugs
➢ Follow up of follicular growth by ultrasound
➢ Scheduled sexual intercourse
➢ Artificial Insemination
HIGH COMPLEXITY TECHNIQUES
➢ Encourage the manipulation of gametes (ova and sperm) and embryos in specialized laboratories of human reproduction
➢ In vitro fertilization (IVF)
➢ Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)
➢ Morphological selection (IMSI) and physiological (PICSI) sperm
➢ Culture for embryonic development and embryo transfer (ET)
